Dr. Marcus E. Vandiver is a passionate and dedicated advocate for education and life-long learning. Dr. Vandiver has spent the last 18 years of his career at the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), where he currently serves as an Education Analyst in the department’s Accountability section. He is responsible for understanding and interpreting federal law, as well as providing data analytics, validation, and visualization information related to the Alabama Accountability Reporting System, a part of Alabama’s Education Report Card.
Dr. Vandiver has served in numerous capacities at the ALSDE, including the Research and
Development section, concentrating in data analytics and data visualization, and providing
technical and analytical support to executive staff and departmental personnel through the
development and monitoring of strategic tracking-models for the state’s strategic education plan;
the Federal Programs section, where he administered close to $55 million in federal funding for
school improvement initiatives; and the Prevention and Support Services section, training
superintendents, principals, and teachers in school safety protocol, as well as program and fiscal
management of close to $40 million in state grant funds for at-risk programs for Alabama public
school students,
Dr. Vandiver earned an Ed.D in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Law as a member of the first
cohort of Alabama State University’s ELPL doctorate program.
